“Panama gets rights to perform 2009 Tony Award Winner for Best Play”

It is not very often you see a play of this caliber run so quickly after it has had such a successful run on Broadway. Producer, Kimberly Hall had to really fight to get the approval from the Creative Artists Agency in New York. In addition to its Tony Award, Goc of Carnage also won London Lawrence Olivier Award 2009. Actors who acted in the Broadway runs included James Gandolfini (Sopranos), Jeff Daniels and Lucy Liu.

Panama is really experiencing a cultural explosion and in the theater world means we have graduated from putting on musicals and comedy classics to running the top shows straight from Broadway and original pieces written by local writers. The Guild has stood out this year during its 60th Anniversary proving its commitment to producing great shows on a minimal budget and with a volunteer staff – a true community theater in every sense of the word. Bruce Quinn has agreed to direct the Anniversary show this coming December.

God of Carnage is a snapshot of 2 couples during one night. Our characters don’t live extraordinary lives – Married with kids, normal jobs, nice homes – but we have the pleasure of watching them self-destruct. No medieval battle. No war, swords or weapons of mass destruction. After their children got into a fight on the playground, the couples meet to have a peaceful discussion – just adults. Too bad the grownups actually behave worse than kids. Let me let you in on a little secret…watching others bring out the worst in each other is one hell of a good time.
